How do people develop bonds with toys?

I was watching Toy Story 2 and 3 and suddenly I realized how much I love my stuffed pig. So I went upstairs and looked at it realizing I hadn’t slept with him in a long time and hugged him. So this question popped up.

That’s actually a very hard question! It’s not just the toy itself. It’s what it represents. They are fluffy and warm like a pet, yet never gets mad or misbehave. I guess when you have it long enough and you have enough good memories of it you can develop a bond.
